remember blue skies?

Miranda turned 3 in August. We had a party. We had a very cool thing at the party. A moonwalk (or bouncy house or blowup house or whatever you want to call it). The jungle theme was taken, so we got the Dalmation. Which turned out to be brown.
blowup

This is Miranda inside. inside She and Papa were inside almost constantly. It could hold 3-4 adults or 8 kids. It was a 10' by 10', if you are wondering.

deflate On the phone, the guy who rented it to me said it blew up in 2 minutes. We thought he exaggerated. But he didn't. There was an air pump blowing continuously. Unplug it and it deflates.

Why am I bringing this up now? Well, 1, I have been lazy and have not scanned the pictures in until now. And 2, it was so sunny and bright blue. And it is pretty dreary in October when the clouds blanket the sky. Every day.

Why didn't any one tell me?

I have just about switched to diet soda. How could my diet soda drinking friends not tell me the trick was lemon? It makes it possible.

round and rounds

tractor
This picture was actually from July, in Door County. We stopped at a cherry orchard. They had these nifty little tractors you could pedal around a little track. It was amusing, but also makes for a strange picture. And makes me think of Sysiphus.

Miranda will bring flowers to class tomorrow, as her assignment. Montessori at work. She is supposed to learn flower arranging. Each month we are assigned one day to bring the treat or project.

She had a good weekend. We ventured into Chuck E Cheese for dinner Friday. What was amazing was how it got busier the later we stayed. As in 5:30, not so busy. 7 pm, it was hopping. Why does Chuck E Cheese need to be open until 11 on weekends?

Miranda also successfully stayed in her bed the whole night. We had a relapse of the family bed for a few weeks. Last night we decided to outlast the screaming, crying and whining. It worked.

We are working on Halloween costumes around here. I'll post pictures of progress soon. We have a sea theme. Miranda has a mermaid costume, purchased from Gymboree. Picture. Rob is a shark or dolphin or sting ray. Henry is a rainbow fish. And I am seaweed. Or the sea. I'll be aquamarine and have fish painted all over.

It all started when she insisted on getting the mermaid purse from Gymboree with birthday money. And so I pushed for a theme. Rob gets some nifty long underwear for running. I get pajamas. Henry recycles a body suit.

Rob is off to the Packer game tomorrow. Did you know he broke 10000 on the waiting list? Only 9000 more tickets (or so) have to be given up for his option to buy tickets to come up.

picture day

miranda
Today is picture day at Miranda's school. We took a few practice shots this morning. I have PhotoShop'd a picture from this morning. I can only hope the school ones will be better. Or not any worse?

rob
And I thought I should put a recent photo of Rob up. For those of you not following the news, Rob is now at a healthy weight (by BMI) and is so trim it is just amazing. Bravo Rob!

And just so Henry isn't left out.henry
He has almost outgrown his activity saucer. Thanks BAR--it has been a sanity-saver. He doesn't even realize it's a trap.

Grumpy Day

2004oct1-frown.jpg OK, so this picture is technically from Friday. But it really matches Miranda's attidude for today. She was frowning and grumpy from when I dropped her off at school until I picked her up. She threw a kicking-the-floor temper tantrum for her grandmother, a previously unknown event. She whined. She pouted. She ate everything in sight. She has a terrible cough. Poor baby.

She did light up when she saw Henry when I picked her up from school. And she did enjoy visiting Tumbling Tykes for Open Gym.

Tomorrow is picture day. Wish us luck!

fooling around

Today Papa blew up the blow up house in the basement. Henry had never seen it before and Miranda had forgotten. It is so cute when they are cute together.

Retrospective: first day of school

Well, I wish I could say I took the summer off from the kids' websites. But that suggests I planned it. So I will try to fill in summer over the next few weeks.

First off, Miranda started school. Her first full (3 hour!) day was September 7, 2004. She was nervous, but did really well.

Miranda has had a bumpy start to school. It is hard to learn to follow directions and to do what you are supposed to do in the classroom. She cried and didn't want to go in days 3 through about 9. She now will go in, but still has a few rough spells in the room.

This is the beginning

OK, so I thought I could keep up with two websites. Two kids. Two websites. Easy, right? Well, no. Two kids are not easy. As all I have left is the hope to let go; welcome to the new and improved AboutMiranda.com and About-Henry.com.

What about the security? Well, the old, stuff is still password protected. And some of the new stuff will be too. If you want to get in, just ask.
